SHOW ME THE MUMMY RAISE PLENTY OF MONEY IN RELAY FOR LIFE

The Cancer Society’s Relay for Life is a nationwide annual fundraiser, where teams walk, jog or run continuously throughout the night to raise money and symbolise the fact that the disease never sleeps. A group of 21 mates from around Wellington - calling themselves Show me the Mummy - took part in Porirua’s event at Te Rauparaha Park (15-16 Feb), kicking off at 9pm Saturday and finishing 9am the next day.

Fuelled by donated Hell pizza, team captain Justine Brooker and her fellow fundraisers successfully charged through the evening and into daybreak. Thanks to extra efforts such as bake sales, raffles and movie nights, the team smashed its target, more than doubling the $4000 it was hoping to raise, with a grand total of $9117! “We would like to thank Hell for its very generous contribution of Hell vouchers – the pizza was very much appreciated and enjoyed by all of us,” said Justine. “We’ve heard that Relay for Life Porirua has raised just over $55,000 for our cancer community. We think that’s pretty fantastic and are looking forward to the next big event in 2016!”
